Hi,
Does anyone have any experience in converting an AT CS spider to an MT version? I've searched this forum but did not find anything. Apart from an MT flywheel, bellhousing, transmission, pedals and maybe a cranking motor what else is required? Is the prop shaft the same length AT and MT ?? Are transmission mounting points the same ??
Thanks,
Brian.
Auto Transmission to Manual Transmission convert
Re: Auto Transmission to Manual Transmission convert
the tranny mounting points are the same, but the mount itself is different. The front part of the driveshaft is a different length; the auto front shaft is shorter. Remember the rear gear is a different ratio also

Re: Auto Transmission to Manual Transmission convert
I purchased an Auto 82 FS last year and looked into converting it to a 5 speed. Basically it is possible, and not all that complicated. HOWEVER - it may cost you more than just buying a 5 speed. If you want it done for you the quote I got from an expert Fiat mechanic was about $3500 including all parts necessary. If you sold your Auto FS for around $3-5000 and added the $3500 you are not spending you could EASILY by a very nice 5 speed. If you are going to do all the work yourself then that is a different story. Here is a link of a guy who put a 131 Tranny in his spider -

he makes a good argument that the 131 is far more durable. If you want to go that route I have a 131 Tranny that I might be willing to sell.
Good luck!
