another exhaust manifold stud question
I know there have been several discussions about leaking manifold studs, it looks like I have only one leaking stud. Is it possible to remove and seal just that stud without removing the entire manifold?
Re: another exhaust manifold stud question
it's kind of difficult to do with the manifold in place. The problem is you need to double-nut the stud to get it in tight and the stud isn't really long enough to get double-nuts on

Thanks, that is kind of what I was thinking
Re: another exhaust manifold stud question
Would it be possible to weld a nut on the end of the stud, and then grind the weld off when you're done?
Re: another exhaust manifold stud question
I'd try to take another stud and attach it via a nut in between the two studs, then 'double nut' using the lengthened version. Then remove the added on stud once it's tight. Or, you could carefully and exactingly cut a slot into the end of the stud and use a thick flat blade screwdriver. Or, carefully and exactingly grind the threads flat and use a good quality wrench on the flattened section. The grinding/cutting ideas are not show car quality fixes but as long as the other studs are all there, I'd try it.

ARP make some great exhaust studs that have a hex/allen socket built into the end. They aren't cheap though about $10 each stud/washer/nut.. but hey, how much do you value your time?

Just how far are the studs to protrude into the passageways? Is it possible they could actually block the passageway?
