New member in Seattle - 1982 Spider

Post by Coyote2000 »

Just saying hi to everyone -- I've read quite a few of your posts already and am jazzed to be a member.

Way back when, my 2nd car was a dark blue Fiat 850 spider that I bolted plywood underneath to keep the road from showing around my feet. If you went around a right corner too fast the driver side door would flip wide open. :) I followed that with a a '74 Mustang, then an X/19, then another mustang, another X/19 and somewhere in there a 131 that was oxidized like crazy so I painted racing stripes on it with black primer. So I've had four Fiats before this one and many convertibles over the years. I've wanted a 124 ever since those days and have finally gotten back to my roots with this 1982 beauty. The previous owner was a great guy that took wonderful care of the car and I of course plan to do the same (with a little help and info from this board).

That is one beautyful looking car...love the colour.
Yes this forum is a great place to ask questions and get plenty of advice :D
If you have any inclination to head accross the line, there is a French Italian car show in North Van on Fathers day this year. Just fill up before comming accross the line...fuel prices as you go through Vancouver will make you gag as compared to what you might be used to in Seattle.( $1.35 or more /L reg...$5.15 us gal)

Quite a story! Your Spider may not be as adventurous as your 850, but I'm sure you'll find a way to enjoy it somehow. Congratulations and welcome. You've got a beauty.

Nice looking car. Welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find the answer to any Fiat related question you might have. What part of Seattle are you in? I'm down south in Federal Way.

Great looking car and I echo the comments about the color ... it is great! Welcome to the forum from Corvallis, Oregon. Maybe some day we'll meet in some sort of Pacific Northwest gathering.

Chris -- when gas hit $5.00 a gallon down here people talked about little else.  But I see it as simple inflation.  A gallon of gas is one of the few purchases we can measure over a lifetime and money is simply worth a lot less these days (roughly half of what it was last time I owned a Fiat).  That said, I'll fill up my tank on this side of the border.  :). As to whether I can make the show -- that all depends on the free time situation so I'll have to play it by ear (I'll let you know if I can attend though -- sounds fun).

Tartan18 -- corvalis, eh?  We might have a friend or two in common... I'll PM you.  Otherwise I'd be up for any nw meet that comes up (time permitting again).

Zippy -- right on, I'd love to hit you up for info.  I'm in (very) south Seattle so we're practically neighbors.

Pooldoctorstl -- the best year, eh?  I got lucky then -- I had it my head that wanted an 80's turbo.  But I got so excited about the color combo that I forgot all about the turbo prerequisite!  Lol... Gettin old I guess, but really FI is plenty.  I can tear apart a carb (and sometimes put it back together) but really i have no love for floats and needles and all that.

Anyway thanks everyone for the warm welcome.  And on behalf of my car thx for the compliments!  I think Jay Leno said something about not owning his cars -- that he was just taking care of the until the next person came along.  Hopefully I can share that attitude and take care of her accordingly.

Nice car! I just picked up an 81 Spider in Bellevue last Sunday. It's the same color combination as yours , but the wheels are just the four spoke mags, and not as nice as yours.........Mark
