Timing Belt reuse?

Post by Fiat88 »

I replaced my timing belt last year but this year I ended up doing it again because I wanted to remove those inner metal covers. So i had bought another new one and my friend and I put it on, this was about a few months ago. The car has been sitting because i've been replacing and upgraded various parts since we put that belt on, so I haven't driven it yet with this belt. Today I noticed that the exhaust side camshaft was off a tooth so I redid the belt and lined up everything in specs. Is it ok to reuse this belt? Thanks.

I thought you said you never used it. It was just sitting there.

Its been on the engine but I've never started the car with it. I've only turned the engine over by hand a few times.

Yep its fine, I've done it multiple times with no problems. Once to change out the bearing, once to change out the pulleys and the belt was over a year old with daily use.
