Here we go again.
When I first tried my 1981 FI after the winter I did not hear the fuel pump. I don't know if that is the way it should be but my pump goes on when I turn on the ignition. I started to look for a loose connection at the pump and than it started working.
Later that day it quit again and working the connection did not change it this time. Hours later it worked again, who knows why. I pulled a pump from another 81 last year so I decided to put that one in. Problem is my old pump has a 12mm line to the tank while the new (used) one (Bosch, made in the US) has a 8mm connection.
Can i still use that pump and just reduce the the diameter in the hose from the tank
Also, the steal line going back from the vapor canister in the front is ending by the rear axle and about 10'' away from that the hose coming from the fuel pressure relive valve at the tank is just hanging loose in the air.
Where these loose ends original connected
Should I fix this even though I don't have any problems and they don't do the smoke test here in MN
Could I just take out the canister and call it useless ballast
Thanks for reading and I hope you have some answers for me, Tobi
FI questions
Re: FI questions
well, you can use anything that you can make fit. The problem with an inline electric pump is they don't create much suction, hence the large inlet on the Fiat. The pump you have with a small inlet might be from an application that has a helper pump in the tank. As long as you can get a constant fuel supply to the pump it would work. As for the cannister, why not just hook the hose back up? The cannister doesn't hurt anything and it really isn't very heavy
