I posted this on Mira, but with the great discussion and diagram around the 32ADFA recently, I wanted to get your input (plus I'm hoping to actually have some garage time tonight, so the more help I get, the better).
I'm in the process of installing the carb. It's a 32ADFA. I can tell from KalamazooJohnny's picture that the carb is either
missing things and/or was modified. It looks like it's missing parts where the emissions would have plugged in. I also can't see where the thermostatic choke connects to it. Can you look at these photos and help me figure out what's missing and if I can use this carb? I printed out the Kalamzoo's picture and have it next to my carb, so I can see differences. But I'm confused on some of it, and not sure if the missing parts are things that could be plugged anyway. Most of the diagrams I have of carbs are the "exploded view", which is somewhat helpful, but also make my own head explode...
I've got a box of carb parts and a few other carbs, but none are complete ADFAs. Some of the parts are in small bags and not labeled, so I'd have to figure out what they are and if they're the missing pieces to what I put on
the car.
If I need to, I can scavange the carb off my red car, as I know that one works, but I'm hoping not to do that. Click on this link to my photo album and it's the first 5 pictures.

Re: Can I use this carb???
It "appears to be" a 32 ADF carb, but there are a few things missing and odd about it. If it is a 32 ADF then its an early version from 75-77 due to the accelerator linkage. It appears to be missing or removed the fast idle system on the front passenger side of the carb. There should be two brass ports in the base section of the carb on the drivers side, they appear to be missing and fitted with factory plugs. The two hoses are still hooked to the water activated automatic choke housing, however the rest of the housing, stepped unloader cam and actuating rod are missing from the carb. In its place it appears someone installed a manual choke from another carb.
Send me an email and I can send you some PDF documents on the 32 ADFA including more diagrams and the factory workbook.

Thanks! I'll send you an e-mail. Any help would be appreciated. I assumed the carb had been modified, but I'm not sure how.
So am I better off taking this thing off and pulling the carb from my red car? Both cars are '76 models, and I'm pretty sure the red one is complete. Or could this carb work as is?

Re: Can I use this carb???
Do you guys think I could use this carb for now just to try to get the engine to fire up with a capful of fuel poured into it? That's my goal right now, just to get the engine to crank and start. Once I do that, I planned to try replacing the front seals.

Not sure if I should comment, as I only know enough to be confused by the photo. Looks like maybe the bottom of the carb is from a different carb? Is your accelerator linkage connected? Just curious, as I don't see it. I had a carb that I was trying to rebuild, and found out it had no jet fittings inside! Never know what you will find. One thing though, I don't think you should try starting it if you don't have the timing belt on correctly.

Re: Can I use this carb???
Yeah, I'm still not sure what this carb is. Not sure if it's a basement brewed one or what. I know it said 32ADFA 1 on it, but that doesn't mean it's a stock carb.... And when I compared it to your picture, I stood there with that dazed and confused look on my face.
The cable that goes to the gas pedal is there, I just need to mount it to the top of the intake manifold. But the rest of this is still a mystery. The timing belt is on straight...that was one of the first things I tackled...

I can't read the engraving on it, but this is the carb in my 76 spider, slightly different from the other one on my 77. Don't know if that helps you out any, but I do see a slight difference in the base, and of course where the accelerator cable is attached.

Re: Can I use this carb???
KalamazooJohnny,
Two big thumbs up for the pictures, thanks!!! Definitely useful. My carb has parts that look similar, but others that don't. Really looks like most of my missing stuff is emissions related. I also can't see on my carb where the mounting points for the thermostatic choke would be. Got some input from a vendor that perhaps the carb I have is a Euro carb, but without actually seeing it, he couldn't be sure.
Hoping I can tinker with it a bit this weekend, otherwise it'll have to wait. On a business trip next week.

Re: Can I use this carb???
Hi Steve,
I just replaced my 1979 28/32 ADHA carb with a 32 ADFA carb. The car is running fine now. Really a big difference...
On your carb the housing for the automatic choke is missing due to this the cooling hoses can not be mounted.
When you are located in warm areas of the US it might be ok, when you assemble the carb that the primary input is open and you leave the automatic choke unmounted. Here in Germany the choke is required.
I have disassambled the complete 32 ADFA and assembled it completely with new parts.
If you need some detailed pictures, please let me know, I can send it by mail.
