Greetings from Michigan

Post by MIflyer »

Hi everyone,

What a cool site to have stumbled across! My name's Kevin, and I've had a soft spot for small vintage sports cars nearly my whole life. I learned to drive a manual on my uncle's old VW Beetle convertible, a buddy and I did a partial resto on a Triumph Spitfire in high school, and I've always lingered near Fiats, Alfas, MGs, and the like.

But let's face it, you can't beat the Italians for style, right? I got my hands on a bright red 1977 Spider when I was nineteen - completely contrary to my father's advice, of course - and used it as my daily driver for a couple of years. I loved it, and so did my dog Jake, the only creature with legs that could fit in the back seat. I never did any serious work on it, because the car ran great when I got it... about as ambitious as I got was installing a block heater because, well, I live in Michigan.

Unfortunately, an overseas deployment forced me to sell the car eventually. However, I still love these little Fiats and I am very much hoping to own another one within a year or so. I figured this would be a smart place to start lurking, collecting info, and asking questions before I shell out for another car. Looks like many of you have technical expertise that far exceeds my own - hope you don't mind me picking your collective brains. Cheers!

Where in MI are you? If you are near Detriot we have a great Fiat club. Send me your email if you want more information. Rob

Being in Lansing there is also the West Michigan Fiat Lancia Unlimited group as well. We have a number of meetups planned starting next month and continuing through the summer. We would be glad to have you attend a garage day or anything else you care participate in.

We have our events on a Facebook page:http://www.westmichiganflu.org/

Good luck in your pursuit.
