Hallo,
on a 1977 Spider ( calif) I changed in exhaust manifold ( "new" 4-2-1 from a Fiat 132) and It 'just' fits ( very narrow ) but when driving there are vibrations and (more than) probably the exhaust is touching the crossmember.
The right enginemount seems too flat.
Is it possible that changing enginemounts could cure the problem ?
And is it possible to change those without a 'hoist ( ? is that the good word ? ( a 'giraf"in dutch)) , but by using 1 or 2 hydraulic trolley jacks ( and wood) under sump and gearbox?
Need to disconnect exhaust ( or others ?) ?
thanks, Geert

You'll have to look to see how much room you have to know if you have to disconnect the exhaust to raise the engine. You can raise the engine without the hoist. Check the exhaust first. Loosen the brackets that hold it to the car and the clamps. Maybe you could wiggle enough to move it away from the crossmember and then retighten the mounts.

I would also look at the transmission exhaust mount as that can cause the exhaust to be too close to other things as well.

that "s a bit of a problem : that transmission exhaust mount was meant for the exhaustsystem with Katalysator, and there was an 'eye' welded on that exhaust pipe, none of this on my new exhaustkmead wrote:I would also look at the transmission exhaust mount as that can cause the exhaust to be too close to other things as well.
