Re: engine
kind of a vage question, really.
Are they similar? Absolutely. They're smilar in that they are both internal combstion motors. They're both 4-cyl overhead-cams. both Italian-made.
I mean, a ferrari V12 and your Lawnmower motor have some basic similarities.
What specifically is your question?
Are you asking if parts are interchangeable? nope.
Are you asking if a mecanic trained with Alfas can do a good job with a Fiat? Yes.
I guess you'll have to help me out abit.

Re: engine
YEs, I got your PM. Sorry I have not responded. I need to go modify the ad. I am having some significant second-thoughts about selling these. I beleived they were going to be too small when I put them up for sale, and was going to look for 44's. But after spome further research, I'm a little less certain.
In the meantime, I've had no less than 4 people offer me full-price plus shipping...... But ue to my indecision and frankly the extreme pace at work these days, I've been putting them off. I'm actually quite embarassed.
I will go take the ad down, with apologies.
If they ever DO become available again, I will keep the same price, as I beleive it is quite fair, and represents exactly what I paid for them, knowing it was quite fair when I paid it.
So, back to the topic of this thread:
YES:
IF you have a mechanic who did a good job with an Alfa, there is no reason to think he would not do the same with a Fiat. Most engine-building techniques are fairly consistent with ALL motors, as far as attention to detail and where to spend your time / money for best / biggest gains. Particularly when you're describing motors of very similar size and layout (ie: sub-2L, Dual overhead cam, hi-revving italian song-makers like the Fiat TC and the Alfa)

Re: engine
Both 4 cy OHC motors but the blocks are very different. Especially cylinder sleeves. Not unlike US companies with multiple lines, IE GM, Fiat benefitted from technology developed for the Alfa. A '64 Spider Veloce had 4 wheel disc brakes, fully syncro 5 speed trans, DOC carb'd motor. Sounds like my '76 Fiat. Thanks Alfa (and Enzio)

Actually there was no trickle over from Alfa to Fiat, as way back them they had no relationship and were competitors until they were acquired in 1986 by Fiat.
Alfa and Fiat designs are radically different from when these cars were developed although some of the end results seem to be very similar.
Chain driven cams versus belt driven. ATE sliding pin brakes versus internally developed floating calipers. Etc.
Fiat was much like GM back in the day with a large centralized design and engineering organization that supported sub brands. If you can ever find the book Forty Years of Design with Fiat by Dante Giacosa it is a good read about Fiats engineering organization (if a good bit egotistical...)
