I have a 1978 Spider 1.8L motor and have some questions about tune-ups. I check the #1 spark plug and it looks good. Not worn, has a good light brown burn area. Then looked at the dist cap, has some rough burn marks on the contacts, rotor also looks a little rough with burns, dual points also show burns and some wear. Not sure if it all needs replacing and if so, anyone sell or even make a solid state pointless system?
I was going to check timing but I don't see any timing marks or balancer? Am I missing something? How do you time these motors? Or do most send the car to the local service shop for tune-ups? Cost?
Thanks !!!

Re: Tuning questions
sounds like your plug, points, rotor and cap are showing normal wear. dont know if a 2L electronic dizzy will work with your car. you have a notch in the crank pulley that is the timing mark. you will have 2 short marks and a long mark moulded into the cam belt cover or you will have a 2L style with 3 notch marker on the next to the crank pulley on the exhaust side. posted pix of my motor a while back. not sure where to find it.
