tranny removal question

Post by kbee00 »

So I am about to pull the eng/trans and crawled under the car today to see what I needed to do to get ready for this extraction.

Do I need to completely unbolt the guido? The rear wheels are on the ground so I can't turn the driveshaft.

Besides the speedo cable and ground wire - is there anything else to be removed before I pull it? Yes, the gearshift - but anything else?

Thank you

Yes, you're going to have to unbolt, and likely later replace the "guido". While you're under there, you should tickle the giuseppes, and fully exercise the bologna.

Get the shop manual for the car. If your town has a good size used book store, there's a good chance there's one there cheap. Worked for me, and there were a few of them for 124/850. The Haynes manual has been doing me right for this model, better than Haynes has done me for other cars I've owned...

Going from memory, you're going to have to let your drive shaft hang down, and you're going to have to unbolt the mounts for the trans itself, and at least one of the carriers for the drive shaft. Ya might put your rear end in the air before reaching for the guido

The starter must be removed, as well as the shifter mechanism. The guibo may remain attached to the driveshaft if you wish.

definitely leave 3 bolts in the donut. makes it much easier to put the other 3 back in.
