Re: Flat rate time to replace timing belt?
if its your first time, plan on spending a few hours on it. takes awhile to get the technique down. Lets see.
rotate motor to TDC 2min
drain radiator 2 min
pull radiator hoses 2 min if no issues; 15 minutes if stuck good
pull coolant T 2 min
pull belt cover 4min
loosen tensioner 1 min
slide belt off 1min
remove bearing 1min
clean tensioner area install new bearing 5 min
install new belt 10 min
release tensioner 1/2 min
rotate motor by hand a few times 5 min
loosen tensioner because the belt is off 1 tooth 1 min
restring belt 5 min
release tensioner 1/2 min
rotate motor by hand a few times 5 min
inspect pulley locations 1/2 min
install belt cover 5 min
install coolant T (check to see if new gasket is required) 3 min if no issues, 20 min if cleanup required
install coolant hoses 5 min
fill with coolant 5 min
burp system 20 min.
when you add all that up you come up with 1.83 hrs. add in a fudge factor and you are at 2.2 hours.
this seems long, and i'm usually optimistic on my times. be interested to see what the "book" says.
The does not include initial cleaning and post cleaning.. that pushes it to 3 hours.

The Brooklands Shop Manual lists the time as 1.9 hours for a 1974-1978. The skill level listed is "B" or skilled (on an A-D scale). Interestingly the time for a 1979-1982 is listed as 3.1 hours.

Another point but not sure if the 78 had the metal shrouds covering the belt. If they are present, then add a bit more time and you have to pull the crank pulley to get at the one 10mm bolt behind it.
