I haven't made a purchase yet, but I've got my eyes set on a 1975 Fiat. It'll be a restoration project - my first - and I'm looking forward to it. Right now I'm negotiating the price, but I'm determined to own one. Hopefully you'll be able to answer my questions and point me in the right direction to get the top down and the wheels of a Fiat on the road ASAP.
Thanks!
McFlash
PS
Where is the donate button? I'd help out, but don't know where to make my donation.
A Fiat is next...in CT

Hi McFlash,
Just watch out for the rust, even the stuff you can't see. Shock towers in particular. Everything else can be fixed.
The PayPal donate button is right up there on the right, just below the red Spider's driver's side rear wheel. It will be money well spent for sure.

Good luck with your search! Lots of useful pre-purchase info here and elsewhere, including:
http://www.hemmings.com/hsx/stories/200 ... uide1.html
http://www.mirafiori.com/faq/content/buyspid.html
1975 is the pivotal model year requiring emissions inspections in several states, so use this info when negotiating. You may not yet be subject in CT at present, but states across the USA are looking for the least-politically-damaging way to meet federal air quality standards.
There are several Spider.com and FLU members in your area. An expert (i.e newbie like you who has spent untold hours repairing rust ) is a valuable resource when evaluating candidates. The going rate for such service is one six-pack, or a lunch.

Just made an offer...
This past weekend I took a look at a '81 2000 and loved it. Today, I made an offer and the seller accepted. You have no idea how excited I am!
It certainly has its share of quirks and it definitely needs some TLC, but it'll be a great first project car. As soon as I get my hands on it, I'll change the timing belt, put on new tires and bleed the soft brakes that were "just done." Besides that (from what I can tell) it can be driven and restored in due time, piece by piece.
Wish me luck!

Congrats on the purchase!
I would check all the rubber underneath on the drive train. If any of these go, it could be disasterous.
There are plenty of place to get these. You don't have to buy them at IAP.
