There's nothing special about H-4 bulbs. You can buy them at any auto parts store. I don't know why that site refers to them as "European". If they mean to imply that they are European headlights, they are misleading you. I can tell from the lens pattern they are not the superior European headlights that are used in most of Europe (E-Code) for non HID applications.

They're an improvement over the sealed beam lights that came as original equipment on our cars. I can't really speak to the pricing. Seems reasonable.

I bought my H4th in Germany at Spider Point and the Glass looks the same as much as I can tell by that small photo.
Bosh is a German/European company, I don't think they would make a different lens than they produce for the European market.
Without the relays they are just as bad as the sealed beams but with relays I am sure they are much better than sealed beams.
I paid $65 for them and $45 is hard to beat.
In Germany the big bulbs are illegal because they are very bright and can blind traffic but in the Netherlands they are legal.
I would stay away from the big bulbs because they also can get very hot.
I would buy them!

Check out this vendor's site as it explains the difference between E code and DOT headlights. I have no personal connection with this vendor but I did buy a pair of the Hella ECE H4's.

The Bosch headlights are E-Codes which means they are the same as what is sold in Europe and are VASTLY superior to American market sealed beam type headlights. The price of these is very, very good, and the quality is equal to or similar to Hella.
The bulb price is a good deal, they are just standard bulbs nothing more.
Personally I have never run higher wattage bulbs and don't recommend them unless the wiring has been upgraded along with relays to ensure they don't stress the rest of the wiring.
Not to be unkind but one cannot tell what the pattern will be by looking at the lens. They are not misleading you, nor would I. I will see if I can hook mine up (which came today) on my 850 to try and get a pattern shot (it will likely wait until the weekend as none of my cars have been out of the garage yet).
I have had Cibie and Hella E-Codes in the past and have been very happy with them. I hope I am happy with my purchase. I will let you all know what I think.

Yes, if you are willing to ensure that they receive ample voltage and current, and you are willing to aim them properly. Any E-code lamp, from the $20 Indian Neolite to the $120 NOS Italian Carello, will be better than the sealed beam units, if the above conditions are met. If you have annual state safety inspection, you might have to swap them out for DOT-approved sealed beams before inspection. An alternative is the H4 headlamps from Bosch and Hella that are DOT-approved. Never used 'em, but probably much better than sealed-beam, but not as good as E-code. The major difference between these two are that the DOT-lamps have a symmetrical beam from left-to-right, like the OE headlights on American cars. The E-code lamps have an upside-down "knee" in the beam pattern that projects higher to the right, to better illuminate road signs. Here is the Neolite E-code pattern. You can see the upward tilt of the right-side lamp. The better-known manufacturers look similar, but with more uniformity and a sharper cut-off.

If you want alot of info on headlights and all light as a matter of fact go to Daniel Stern Lighting. Referred as the guru of auto lights. If you can shell up the $$ get E Code Cibies and Ultrastars. You won't be disapointed!
