Gas Vapr Filter

Post by gallera »

My gas vapor filter spews gas after gasket sealer used on my carb but not all the time. Any ideas? Also, want to clean my motor to see where the leaks are coming from. Gunk or no gunk?

Sounds like you may have hooked up the vapor cannister incorrectly. Which carb port is it hooked up to?

The one closest to the carb. The second port has never been connected to anything and there is anotherone underneath that runs into what, I haven't a clue. Going down this road pretty much by myself. My husband only makes things worse and my mechanic is getting all my money!

Here are the pictures this is the gas vapor filter. Image The top hose comes out of the filter and into the first port in front of the carb. The bottom hose comes out of the filter and into the 2nd port in front of the carb.
Image Here is the gas spill next to the filter which spews from the one port on top of the filter with no hose.

Here is your pic of the carb with hoses numbered 1,2,3.

The hoses numbered 1 and 3 should connect from the carb to the vapor canister.

Hose number 2 should NOT attach to the vapor canister. Very dangerous if #2 is connected to the canister.

Hose 1 is connected to the bottom of my canister, Hose 2 is connected into the top of the canister and I don't know where hose 3 runs to but where should it go? And where should hose 2 go?

Hose #2 is the excess gas return and should hook up to a line back to your gas tank, not the vapor canister. This is why you have gas coming out of the canister. My guess is that someone switched hose 2 and 3 when the carb was put back on. I'm guessing that if you switch hose 2 and 3 (ie unplug 3 and plug where 2 is and vice versa) at the carb it should be the correct hookup. The spiket at the base of the carb should be routed to your canister. If you follow hose 3 (as it is presently connected) it should connect to a metal line somewhere around your brake booster which is your gas tank return line.

...and my engine looks like yours I'm not keen on cleaning with water around the engine. You might try some gunk first with low pressure hose but be real careful around the electronic components.

GOD BLESS YOU! I will try it out tomorrow and let you know if that does the trick! One last question, there is still one port with no hose as seen in the first picture which is the view looking straight down to the top of the canister. Is that the way it's supposed to be?

I'll have to look at mine again but I'm fairly certain that the other hole in the canister is just a cleanout hole that allows one to replace the carbon. It should have a cap. Perhaps it just fell off at some point.

Please let us know if that solves your gas problem! It's very dangerous to have gas leaking into the engine bay.
