Hi all,
I purchased a 1981 Spider 2000 last year, June 2010. I found this forum while researching the web for supplies of parts. I didn't want to buy a car that had limited part support, but the amount of support for spiders is fantastic (but everyone knows that here).
My spider is a powder blue with a blue interior, with a tan top.
The good:
-A fairly rust free car. It has spend its entire life in northeast Ohio.
-All of the owners manuals including list of Fiat service centers.
-The tool kit, missing the double end screw driver
-The PO used quality parts to maintain the car.
The not so good:
-8 or so rust bubbles that need to be repaired, the worst is on the right rear wheel arch.
-A crack in the dash by the defroster vent.
The "what were they thinking"
-A PO put Alfa badges on the hood and trunk. the problem is that the hood was bugered up by putting the badge on, pounding a large dent into it.
-1970's era cruise control unit (Removed)

Welcome to the forum, Dan. We are fortunate to have great parts resources! Have any pics of your new ride? Where are you located?

Hello Dan, and Welcome! Sounds like a neat car you've got there. You're fortunate to have Jon Logan and Midwest 124 in Columbus, not that far from you. I'd be very tempted to have Jon spend a couple of hours on the car, itemizing what must be fixed, what should be fixed, etc. It's very easy to spend multiples of the car's price on repairs. Having an expert help with priorities is invaluable.

I located about 50 miles west of Cleveland, in a town called Madison. I got lucky with the car, the PO took good care of it. Just small things were not functioning. I have everything working except for the heater. This winter will be the front suspension. I may drive to Midwest someday, I been fixing old cars for the better part of the last 25 years. However I listen to everything/everyone because you always learn something. If you cant your not trying

Welcome,
Since you like working on old cars, you'll love the spider. Easy to work on and those things that do happen are actually easy to fix once you get the feel for a 124 Fiat. Yes, post some pics, it doesn't do anything for us without them.
Good luck
By the way, I'm in Canton...
