car overcharging

car overcharging

i put a volt meter on the battery while car is running. numbers go way up to 19 back down to 12 and random changing
what wrong now ?
what do i need to change, voltage regulator
can a person get one over the counter at a local part store?

You should be able to get one through a Fiat vendor, usually cheaper than an auto parts store. The original voltage regualator can be adjusted.

sorry I got called away by my boss. autoricambi or some of the other vendors are the better and for sure places to buy the parts. but if you on the side of the road or in the drive way it is good to know who carries some parts

If you're volt meter is working properly, the problem is the voltage regulator. Just checked out racepages.com and get fiat oem parts and fiat accessories as well. At least you can be sure that there won't be any problem with compatibility.

Assuming your AS has an alternator, its is the regulator that is the problem.
Mine did the same, charge rate nearly 19.8 volts!!! dried up the battery.........
Replaced the voltage regulator and ditto...fix problem.
Yes. You can buy aftermarket external ones. Bosch & Hella.
