Hello from San Francisco

Post by Bambooken »

Hi All,
Back in the late 70's I owned a 72 mustard yellow 124 spider that I beefed up with webers, konis and a few other after markets doodads. I did most the wrenching myself. I was lucky to have a Fiat dealership walking distance from my house. The mechanics there were happy to give me tips and answer any questions I had. Note: They had a cappuccino machine in the shop (the first time I ever has seen one). I sold my 124 after about 3 years of hard driving and it needing a syncro and valve job. I've owned a lot of great cars since but I that 124 was my favorite.

Although my wife and I now own a miata and 80's porsche, I find myself pining for a Fiat. So, searching the web, I found this forum and thought it would be a good place to poke around and get started.

This weekend I'm going to have a look at an 850 with a recently rebuild motor. I'm a rust-phobic and fingers crossed, it's been a CA car for most of it's life. I'll be searching the forum for buyer tips for 850s.

Best to all
BK

Welcome, BK! Where in this world do you live, maybe we can help you find a car? If you are in my area, I think we can work out a Porsche/ Fiat Spider swap...

Welcome to the forum. I used to live in SF in from 1960 to 1974. My first car was a 69 124 Sport Coupe in Positano Yellow from 1970 to 1974. Met and married my wife there. What part of the city are you in? Good luck with your hunt for a Fiat.

Hiya BK, welcome to the forum.
You're in a great area for Spider ownership. There's a couple of groups up there who get together pretty regularly. I've met a lot of them, and they're great people.
You got BARF (Bay Area Running of the FIATS) and Fiat America, a very active group a little north of you in Wine Country.
Also in Napa you have Wine Country Motors, Kelly Dicker's (KD) shop that specializes in Fiats. http://www.wcmotors.com/
Good to have you aboard.
