Newbie from Oregon 74 spider

Post by OneBadStud »

Embarking on a partial restoration of a 74 spider, spent the last four days under the dash trying to repair the wreckage previous owners did to the wiring. Had a house wire running from the battery post to the coil (juicing?), with an unprotected houselight switch under the drivers seat (gone now!). Not charging, I think the alternator with an internal regulator *and* the external regulator is the problem. A little rust to be found on the body, floorboards look okay, I'll wait to put it on a lift before I check what's going on under the undercoat. Flywheel cover missing, prolly needs new timing belt. Great power, sounds good, no leaks. Got it for a song and looking forward to driving it!

Welcome to the forum. I'm in Corvallis and I know there are several other Spider owners around. Where are you located and post a pic of your new car when you have a chance.

The wiring was something to behold, for sure. It was more than just a poor stereo installation, the fuel pump ran on the on position, not the run position, etc. Roseburg is where we reside and yeah, I'd heard about the Ashland event. Unfortunately, there's too many obligations for me to be there. In a few days I'll push it out onto the driveway and snap a few pics.
