I am new to the forum, but not new to Italian cars. i have been messing around with Italian cars for almost 5 decades. Got my first when I was 14......1958 Alfa Romeo Guiletta Spider (Normale) that did not run. I spent two years getting up to a "restored and running" condition having to fix/rebuild just about everything. Taught me all I know about cars. All I had was a shop manual in Italian and a grand father that could speak it. No dealers - no internet - no "clubs" - no way of getting parts. Learned how to search junk yards for parts. Ah....the good old days! Got the car up to what would now be called strong #2 condition.
Did Autocrossing and Gymcanas, high performance driving schools and lots of back road driving in New England in the late '60's....had many sports cars over the years....several more Alfa's, MG's, TR-6's, Fiats and more Alfa's. Now I even have a Bertone. More back road driving in up-state NY....and then around the country (Rockies and Seirra Nevada Mtns). In the mid '70's, I landed in Texas and discovered the Hill Country.
My second Fiat was a Spider 2000, carborated. That poor thing was enemic....but it led me to the 2000 Fuel Injected I bought new in 1983. I still have it. It has about 175 KMiles with one major rebuild.....but what a rebuild! Its all tricked out in what looks like a stock body and engine, but it's highly modified, very powerful (over 150HP), lowered, fully modified suspension, and, with the weight down to 2000 pounds, frankly - hauls ass!
Needless to say, I have learned a lot about Fiat Spiders.
