lancia intake cam box on spider

Post by dougburdick »

Has anyone put a lancia scorpion intake cam box on a 2lt spider engine? I was thinking this would be a great way to relocate my dizzy(I have a spare scorpion dizzy) away from my rather hot exhaust header.

It might not work due to the different oil drains. Just a thought.

I think you also need the Lancia intake cam and distributor, as the spider cam and dizzy turns the opposite way.

Better to make a heat shield to cover the headers. Saw a customer car that had a piece of polished metal laid on after market tube headers, draped down a little over each end pipe, and just slots in the metal to use hose clamps around the 2 center tubes, to hold it in place.
If you have the stock header, it came with a heat shield. Just make sure the dist harness is held up away from the exhaust.

I actually have a spare scorpion dizzy. I have removed it's drive gear and fitted it to the later model Marrali electronic. The housing I bought comes with the scorpion intake cam, so no worries there.

If you compare the Fiat and Lancia camboxes, the oil drains on the Lancia unit hold the oil level much higher than the Fiat one to compensate for the engine tilt on the east/west Lancia motor. They can be used on a Fiat motor by simply drilling a hole in the casting to drop the level down to the standard Fiat level.

Thanks! That is good info! I haven't made the switch to the new cam housing yet so I can easily drill the necessary oil hole.
