differantial leak on side

Post by TX82FIAT »

Folks, odd leak on the drivers side of the differantial. Not sure what type of seal is used in this section as it attaches to the axel. What is the best way to diagnose and fix this. Is there an easy method to fix it? Does not leak after a short drive of a few miles. However, When I drive it over 25 miles and over 60 MPH I have a oil from the leak splash back to the gas tank and it drips for about ten minutes after shut down and stops. Later model differantial on an 82'

Reading a little it seams there is a breather hose to the differential. Does anyone have a picture of this. The Brooklands manual I have does not even mention this.

First make sure its not brake fluid. There is not a breather hose, rather a breather valve with a cap, either on the diff case itself or on the axle tube just to the left of the case.

If its diff oil and not brake fluid there is an O-ring and oil seal at the end of the axle tube just behind the brake splash shield. You need to remove the brake, brake caliper mounting bracket and pull the axle to replace them, might as well do both sides.
