Hi from China

I've been reading the forums and found this a fantastic online community.

About me, I'm from South Africa and have been living in Shenzhen, China for over 10 years now. I used to own a 1968 124 coupe. Yellow.

We, my dad and I, put it together from 3 separate cars, the 3rd was bought just for the rims and Weber carbs! It ran smoothly for 4 years till I sold it to a friend when I left for Hong Kong/China. I had first option to buy it back, and had to turn that down last year. It has aparently gone to a good home, so lucky for the new owner. My friend sorted the car better than when it left the factory.

I always wanted a Spider. So am now thinking about buying one in the USA and bringing it into China. I think the only easy part of this plan is that the steering is on the correct side. (South Africa does not allow RHD cars to be imported.)

I hope to be spending more time on the board and look forward to meeting some good people.

Hello, and welcome back to the Family, so you say your starting your own fiat club in China lol. Im sure there is enough guys threw out the states that would help by going and looking at cars and reporting back there condition. just give us a shout. Im in Detroit and I know people on the other side of Michigan that would do the same and maybe even someone in Chicago. let us know if we can help

I'll go dig around and see if I can find pictures of the 124 coupe, scan and post them. I'll also try to get the details of the new owner and hook him up with the world wide owner's registry.

But first I need to work out how to get an old, second hand car without any modern safety systems into China.

Just thought I need to post an update.

Seems importing a classic car into China is straightforward as long as you pay the tax. Problem is getting it licensed for use on the road.

Crash tests and Euro IV emmission compliance will be required!

The search has introduced me to one to other classic car enthusiasts and we are now looking for loopholes in the current legislation that would allow a "special"car to be brought in under limited usage.

Anyone have liks to a global classic car club organization that might have dealt with China licensing authorities in the past?

I'm still hoping to make this work.
