Ground Wire from Cam tower to ground pod?

Post by Fiat88 »

I noticed on my car I have a 10 gauge black ground wire connecting from the engine rear cam plate to the grounding pod on the passanger side. Is this a factory extra ground? Thanks I'm just wondering.

if you have an FI car, there should be 2 such grounds. I dont know if i would call them "extra". they are necessary.

Mine's a FI but I can only find a ground cable on the exhaust side. What difference could the possibly missing one on the intake cam housing do, I thought it was enough to ground the engine in one place (provided that single one is in good shape)?

My 79 Carbureted version had that same connection from the cam cover to a ground near the coil. Mine looks like it was added. I am guessing this was a mod somewhere for a better ground for the distributor. When I rebuilt it i took it off after landing a better ground from the frame to transmission (driver side near the steering box).

The more or better the grounding the better for your electrical system.

Hi,

What does the "ground pod" look like?

And, I have a similar loose black heavy wire near the coil, car ('78) was converted to Pertronix Ignitor before me.

Thanks,
Mark
