My turn signals quit working the other day, and I noticed on this forum that someone recommended checking the hazard switch. So, I pulled the center radio console thing (nice naming, eh?) and wow. First there are 3 lighted toggle switches which seem to have power just to light up the switches when you turn them on. No other wires! Then - and this is the fun part - there are NO wires coming from the hazard switch. And no loose wires, hanging plugs, anything that looks like it should have been connected there.

I guess some PO just decided to bypass the hazard switch all together.

Then I took my trust voltmeter and checked out the fuse box. the middle 4 fuses have NO power to either side of the fuse! What have I gotten myself into? There are cut wires and black tape everywhere under the dash. Mama mia!

find one of these guys on here to get parts from.tell them to cut the wires long

On my 81 2000 spider when I got it the turn signals did't work and when I got to the hazard switch there where no wires in sight. I found them under the center console. The PO had put them under there when ever he had had it out so you might want to look there for them. If you find them it will save you a lot of time.

If you need a new switch, sometimes you can find a BMW one easier/cheaper. Plugs right in. P/N 61-31-1-356-193

Thanks Trey, but the switch is there, but there are no wires to plug into it!

Not fun at all. Had missing circuits and frayed wire on the 82 and it took me about 2 months to trace all the circuits with wiring diagrams to figure out what was done. Not many things more discouraging than looking at the car with the dash and center console out and wires all over like a bad bowl of pasta.

The good news is that after re-establishing all grounds, redoing three problem circuits and one hot to ground wire everything worked. Then did the brown wire fix and rebound all the wires with loom and electrical tape so I can get at anything needed in the future.

The Artigue site should have a wiring diagram. Your going to need it. Trust me on this one. It looks worse than it really is once you get into it.
