I just picked up an '80 and it my first go with restoring a Spider (or any car for that matter in a long time). I was trying to get the various lights working and ended up at the fuse box. To my suprise fuse holders A & B were wired together with bare automotive wire. I can't imagine this is a factory setting.
Any ideas as to what and what purpose?

Re: Fuse A & B wired together
Fuse A and B are closest to the steering wheel. Fuses 11 and 12 closest to the drivers door are for the power windows if your car has them. 11 and 12 are jumped together.
If your fuse A and B are jumped together someone might have been trying to get around replacing the ignition switch. Both the pink wire and the blue/black wire on the ignition switch are hot in the run/start position of the switch but use separate switch contacts. IF one of the ignition switch contacts failed a previous owner might have jumped the fuses to keep the car running. This would not be a lasting repair.
