Crazy-@ss Fuel Gauge: New Information

Post by opus10583 »

Hi,

My fuel gauge goes to 'fuller than 4/4' when I turn on the parking or headlights.

...I'll be reading wiring diagrams tonight.

Thanks,
Mark

Is it pegging or going much higher than the actual level? It is common for the guages tor ead a little higher when you flip on the lights, check your temp gauge for a similar phenomenon.

my gas gauge did that over 4/4 then when over half it works fine then under half it flips out
up all the way then dead nothing but the low fuel light still works

$50 for a new sending unit
when you do everything correct people arent sure youve done anything at all (futurama)

Hi,

There's probably about 3.5 gallons in the tank, it reads about a third of a tank when the lights are off, seems to read fine at all levels until I turn the lights on, parking or head, then the needle swings past 4/4, pegging to the right. There is no effect on the temp gauge or tach, and the way my speedo cable sticks it could be adding -/+45deg of oscillation and I wouldn't notice.

Fuel gauge light isn't working.

Thanks,
Mark

all my guages, tach fuel oil pressure temp, were wacky until I did the alternator up grade. I think it was low voltage. Since putting on the 95 amp alternator all of my electrical functions have smoothed out. Best thing I have ever up graded on my 76

I don't follow: How's more voltage going to un-crosswire my gauge?

Clearly something's wired wrong, and I should mention the previous stereo installation was wired all hot all the time using a BIG RED WIRE I can't find on any FIAT diagram... Not to mention, the proper but unused brown radio wire nearly poked me in the eye when I pulled the console.

Bought a multimeter, waiting for a cloudy weekend day.

Thanks,
Mark
