Just bought a rusty 70 Spider. Run good looks like its all original. My 13 year old daughter and I have been watching Top Gear on the BBC. I decided we need a little sports car convertible with manual transmission. I found this one for 1100 dollars US.
I have had it four days and we love it; rust and all.

Welcome to the site, Scott. $1100 is a pretty good price - however if the rust is well into the body (eg shock towers) be prepared to spend a heck of a lot more!! Make sure you look closely at this before you invest a whole lot more in your car.

I checked towers from above and steering box. They seem OK. I will do some closer inspection from below soon.
I check engine numbers today. Good news I think? I have a larger engine than the original. This is good because I am not interested in doing an original restore any way.
Also I love using my smart phone to take photos in tight spaces.
