Hello from florida
Hi all, let me introduce my self, here I am a middle age man looking for a convertible weekend project. After fixing everything in my custom Harley bobber I did found a 79 carb fixer up. Got the car and spend more then $600 on new parts to find out that the rust was too deep, so after more then 100 h of work I decided to look for a rust free car. Got this time a 80 FI with a clean old restoration but not running. I stripped down the 79 for all the parts what I can use. The 79 engine has 150psi on cylinder 1 and 2 and 120 on 3, 140 on 4. The 80 is 130 on all cylinders. Tomorrow will be the day when the 79 engine will be taking apart internally for evaluation

Welcome.....sucks about your first try! Sounds like this car will be good. I am in the middle of what will be a year long restore up here in Orlando. Have fun with your restore.

My target of completion is May next year. I removed the head on the 79 engine and the reason of lower compression on 3 and 4 was the head gasket. I also got a old head from 1800cc engine. So the final engine configuration will be the 79 engine with new piston rings and the remanufacture head from 1800cc, as for transmission I will use the 79 for which the fluid look much better. The good part is that my wife like the car and she is pushing me to go for a ride.

Re: Hello from florida
I got my 79 engine apart and I am looking to complete the rebuild by Sunday . The big question is, if the head gasket from a gasket kit is OK or I will need one by itself, and I am using a header from 1800cc engine on a 2000 cc engine. On top of the header is a metal pipe with a small canister and connected to the header by 4 threaded connectors. Can this be removed with out building much pressure in the header or I realy need to vent the header. Thank you from Fort Myers Florida

Re: Hello from florida
Got the transmission all clean up, sandblasted, replace all the seals and gaskets, look clean on the inside. I have no way to check how is shifting, just keep my fingers crossed. I also replace the rubber coupling. As far for the engine I got to a stop. By having a valve job on 74 header the shims are no good anymore, that is one issue and second is a cracked the rear crank shaft main seal housing. I had a good productive Sunday in the garage
