twin idf's and flat hood fitment???

Does anybody know if twin 40 IDF/s with aftermarket air filters on a 1608cc will fit under an early flat hood with no bulges?
Are the bulges for looks or to provide needed clearance?

the bulges do provide clearance. They should fit a flat hood but you may be limited to short air cleaners

I've got 40 IDFs on a 1608 under a flat hood. We used a solid motor mount on the left side to keep the air horns from hitting the hood.
