Morning everyone,
I just got my car back from the body shop after a month long stripping re-priming and a return to the factory color of dark red 191. (before and after pictures to follow). Ive managed to straighten most of the little electrical glitches pertaining to the lighting except for one. Neither of the front side marker turn signals work, they work as running lights so i know its not the bulb, but neither work when the turn signals are on and the blinkers elsewhere obviously blink fast. Rember all the lighting and such was removed from the car so is there any connection that could have been put back wrong? Thanks and have a happy fourth everyone!
Side marker blinkers.
Re: Side marker blinkers.
at the top of this forum there is a red fiat with a glowing side marker light. is that what you are referring to? if so, it doesn't blink unless you do a modification to make it do that.
Re: Side marker blinkers.
I am referring to that side marker light, however before the paint job my front side markers would blink with my turn signals, also if the side marker bulbs were bad or loosely connected the blinker indicator inside the car would blink once then stop and just make the noise and the turn signals would blink rapidly indicated a failed bulb, that is whats happening now except both bulbs are functional and work when the running lights are switched on.

Re: Side marker blinkers.
Never saw a fiat that had blinking side markers. Take a look at the harness and bulb, will be 2 wires and single filiment indicating that they dont flash with signals. If Im wrong and someone has changed it let us know. You sure your not thinking about your Jetta
As far as the lights blinking odd then yes one of you front or rear turn signal lamps are not making good contact or blown out. Turn them on and see which one is not flashing, Were the tail lights out for paint? If so the drivers rear ground wire to the tail lamp may not be grounded or tighten enough.

Go to this site for the wiring schematic:
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech ... flash.html
What is shown is running the ground for the side marker to the positive side of the turn signal bulb on that side. This will allow the side marker to work normally and blink with the turn signal when the signal is actuated.
Most European cars offer this (including all of our Fiats when sold overseas).

I'll check tommorow it is possible that a previous owner modified them, as for my actual turn signals all 4 are functional albeit blinking fast, ill check into the wiring and the tail light ground tommorow.

Re: Side marker blinkers.
Ok so I looked into the side markers it seemed to be just a bad ground and now I have front blinking side markers again. Only problem is just recently my turn signal indicator stopped working. I replaced the relay unit to no avail, (which did fix my hazards). All lights function perfectly except the indicator in the dash, could it be the bulb itself?

So i fooled around with the flasher relay some more and now when you signal in either direction all 4 indicators flash and when you switch on the hazards they just come on solid. There is no relay clicking noise or green signal indicator on the dash.

Re: Side marker blinkers.
My '74 came with blinkers in both front and rear side markers. Fronts were yellow lenses, rear red. I disconnected the rear side markers (I think I just pulled out the bulbs) as red indicators were not permissible in Western Australia for registration (yellow required).SLOSpider wrote:Never saw a fiat that had blinking side markers. .
When mine gets its birthday and I switch it to the European type side markers (small round type) the rears I will remove altogether.
