Re: Hello from Wisconsin
Joe,
I have an '82 5spd and recently sold an '82 automatic. The automatic is a pretty bulletproof tranny modified from a chevette. Mine was slipping like mad when I got it. Replaced the leaking trans pan gasket (comes with new filter in kit too) filled properly (check level with engine running in neutral), worked perfectly. The car is surprisingly zippy even with the auto trans. You will probably put $1000-1500 or so in parts to get it roadworthy, so pay accordingly. Quite frankly I would not give more than $800 for the car you describe in the pictures.

I got it for $400, overall I think I'll be able to get her roadworthy!

Welcome to the world of little (or big) things going wrong and keeping us from getting bored. Your decision on whether to buy or not to buy really depends on the shape of the car, the price that you can get it for, and your patience factor as you work on it. Probably on your credit card debt tolerance as well. I haven't been in this forum long, but there are so many helpful people on it that you can be sure someone will be able to help you when you have a problem. I live in the Waukesha/Milwaukee area so I'm a bit of a distance away to readily give you hands on, but the Fiat is probably the coolest car that you can get for the money, and the 2000 will cruise easily at 65-70 mph, so you've got a car that'll be able to get you where you want to go in style. I just bought an 82 myself, and the fuel injection starts reliably and easily and is soooooo smooooooth on acceleration. Enjoy! ed
