We just got a 1977 124. Failed emissions. Trying to tune it and the timing mark on the crank is nowhere to be seen. Where is this mark supposed to be exactly? Help!

Timing mark should be on the plastic timing belt cover. On the drivers side down low by the crank pulley.

Thanks all. I can clearly see the marks on the timing belt cover, but can not see anything on the crank pulley. Just surface rust. I will try again tomorrow.

Re: HI. New Member
do you see the#4 in the diagram above
theres a groove all the way around it except for the mark
with motor STOPED,put your finger on the groove and feel for it
sliding your finger around the face of the pully ,you should find the mark
paint it with a dab of paint
i used white paint.

Re: HI. New Member
Thanks for the help. I have quadrupled check the face of the crank pulley and there is no mark. The only indication of a mark are two small stamped notches on each rim of the pulley. They are really too small to be seen with a timing light, so I put tape the to see the spot better and timed off of that. Car runs just fine, but we will see about the emission test.
