Help to Identify a part

Post by tsharp062098 »

Hey All,

I'm new to the site. I've been restoring a 74 Spider for about a year. I am currently working on the interior. I need help identifing 2 parts, I can't find a picture or part for either...

1) On the center console, to the right of fan switch, under the parking break. There is a litle square hole. What is this for? And where can I find one? It looks like a little light was connected to it.

2) In the center of the dash, Above the light and fan switch, there is a rectangle hole. It looks like a 3 wire switch was connected. But not sure what. This may have been an after market hack, the wires are clipped.

Thanks in advance.

A small clear piece of plastic that says "fan" fits into the small square hole. It is illuminated by one of the fiber optic cables.

The rectangular hole housed the "ideogram wheel" which is a dimmer switch for the bulb that illuminates all of the fiber optic lines. This switch is affectionately referred to as the "dim and dimmer" switch. Most of us have bypassed this switch.

Ideogram switch present (prior to restoration). You can also see the "fan" piece.

Kevin, that's amazing that that is your car. It looks just a little bit different now, doesn't it? :D

Hiram,
It is interesting to look back at the "before" pictures  .
I was sorry to read that you will be tied up with work on the 8th and won't make Italian Car Day. I'll take a bunch of pictures though so you can see what you missed

Todd,

Did Kmac get your question answered?

I interpreted you description differently. Does this provide any help?

Kmac, I didn't know the technical name for the light rheostat was the "dim and dimmer" switch. Duh, of course!
