Thermostat location

Post by mik »

I have a '69 124AS spider. I am troubleshooting a collapsing upper rad hose and will replace hose, but thought maybe could be caused by a bad thermostat. On this car, is it located at the top of the lower rad hose? I have had the car for 40yrs and can't remember if the thermostat has ever been changed. Maybe early on. Haven't driven this car 150 miles in 20yrs. It's time to get it in order and put it back on the road. Thanks, Mik

I had a 70 with a 1438. As I recall, the stadt was on the top of the head at the upper hose connection.

the external t-stats mount at the top of the lower hose and have 3 hose connections. If the hose from the lower radiator bung goes straight into the water pump then the stat is in the upper water outlet
