Full Circle

Hey folks,

Well I learned to drive on my dad's 1976 132 when I was 14, and now almost 2 decades later, I've paid off my 2007 GTI and just picked up Giancarlo! I've always liked that name, ever since I heard of Giancarlo Fisichella (former F1 driver).

Anyway, it's a '79 2000 Spider in great shape. Over $3k was spent over the past year on tuning up the engine, including the entire top end, coolant flush, timing belt, spark plugs, and more. The previous owner replaced the entire front dash and added the 15" aftermarket wheels (I was told by a member of another forum that they're Voxx mg3's). It was also painted probably within the past 5 years to a darker shade of blue (original color was a baby blue). Main thing I need to fix is the odometer because I want to start keeping track of oil changes and other maintenance items. Oh...and I like being able to tell how fast I'm going...

Here are some glamour shots:

Nice! I always liked dark blue!

My dad bought a 1979 Fiat 132 new in Italy, but I was too young to learn to drive on it :-)
What country was that 132 in? I've only seen one in the US.

It was in Iran and there's actually a good number of Fiats over there, including 128's and 131's, but not sure about 124 Spiders. When I told him about wanting to get one when I started my search last month, the first thing he said was "don't get one with a carburetor! I've had too many issues with them!!!"

Oh well...if it really starts to give me problems, I'll probably replace it. So far so good!

Thanks but unfortunately the previous owner replaced the entire gauge and cable, but still no dice. Must be on the other end of the cable that feeds into the transmission somewhere. I got a service manual coming my way and plan to dig into it this weekend.
