It turns smoother, but in reality the leverage of the steering box is so great that it's not a noticeable change.
The stock hydraulic idler is actually kind of hard to move by hand.

The last I heard, Bernie Eccleston said he doesn't think it will be ready in time for next year's event as scheduled. Just wondered . . .
