72 ignition switch wiring

Post by narfire »

Kinda confused trying to install a new switch in the 72. I saw a photo from a previous description but wondering if a po had mucked about with the wiring.

this pink wire that is supposed to go to 15 has the int blue/black attatched to it. Should I split the wires and attatch accordingly
You'll see a couple of wires sort of twisted/ together without a spade end on them. They were red/blue and black twisted together but conected to what?
The big brown also has a small pink attatched to it. This car did not have an ignition switch when I brought it home sao nothing to reference there.
Any help is appreciated....electical is kinda like the boogy man to me

your 2 wires twisted together with no spade connector shows sign of taking some heat. be careful when you connect them up as the short may still be there.

Thanks for pointing that out,I noticed it as well. I suppose I should be checking all the conections for signs of short before I energise them eh.

Thanks Bernie. That was the pic I was using and refering to when I first looked at what I had to do. However the blue/black is attatched to pink wire(single spade) which according to Brad's diagram goes to the 15 conection on the switch. His diagram, when on the light blue/black page shows that lt blue/blk wire goes to the 15 as well as the pink. Brads diagrams shows light blue/red goes to int. on the switch while conected to the black. These are the two wires in my pic that are twisted but since I have combined and put a spade conector on. Looking at my pic I have 8 wires looking for a home.
I have it figure for the most part but wonder if I should split the light blue/black wire from the pink and send it to the int conection as per picture above or leave it and send the light blue/red to the int with the black as per the diagrams. :?
I have another 72 in the yard and If I feel like mucking about in the snow and cold,I suppose I should slither under the dash and have a look :(

When in doubt, I'd choose Brad's scans. This photo was from another thread elsewhere dealing with (I think) ignition switch rehab. During my re-wire, I made the following notes:

INT = coil
15/54 = ignition
30 = power in
30/1 = power in
50 = starter

YMMV

Did the slither thing on the other 72 and Brad's diagrams are what is on that ignition. So, I'll leave the wires as they are and get the switch buttoned up. Next thing is stabbing the engine and tranny.
