As an introduction, my three year old son is gonzo crazy for the the Disney movie "Cars" - so all you dads out there can understand why our Spider in now called "Francesco"...
Francesco came into our life as a bit of a pound puppy - a sight unseen recommendation from my father (in Oklahoma) who said the car was in great shape and just needed some paint.... At that point my restoration addiction had been limited to 60's Camaros/Corvettes, so I figured an international diversion would be interesting.
Some cars are good restoration projects, and some are destined to be parts/donor cars - or sit on concrete blocks in front of trailer homes as elaborate lawn ornaments. Upon first viewing it was quickly evident that Francesco fell into the latter category (definitely an Okie from Muskogee), but I resisted my urge to cut and run as an investment in father/son relations - which ultimately paid dividends.
I've since learned the Fiat restoration "kill ratio" is 4:1 - i.e. 4 old Fiats must die to bring one back to life....
Ten years of intermittent, long distance efforts, non-disclosed amounts of cash (of my dad and mine), and a long trailer ride later - Francesco is now out of the cancer ward, off life support, and tentatively roaming the streets of Nashville. Makes me want to sell "Paisano Francesco" wristbands to the cognoscenti....
Next step is to untangle/replace the existing spaghetti, otherwise known as the wiring harness with a donor organ.

I'm still struggling to figure out how to post photos given file size limitations. "Small" size for iphone photos is 55K, but max avatar size is 6K. Time off this week, so maybe I can figure it out...
