Gathering Parts for the Ghia slowly but they are coming along. some here already some on there way

does anyone know if a 2300 and a 1500 trans are the same

Wow, nice find on that 2300 long block. It's sump is looking alloy and sporting. 2300s perhaps. I'd guess that the 1500 gear box would be largely the same as the 1100 series, rather than that of the bigger six, but I really don't know. I do know that most of the transmissions for the 2300 series were two speed Borg Warner automatics. This was Fiat's first ever automatic car. I've read that the 2300 Coupes came with either the 4 speed all synchromesh with overdrive box or the auto.

Another consideration for the straight six motor or even a more powerful four is a suitable diff. You'd be doubling the intended horsepower of the car with the six, and giving it a whole lot more torque. The final drive in the 2300s diff is 3.72, which with my limited understanding of final drive ratios would make for an excellent highway cruiser. A Ford 9 inch solid rear end isn't Italian, but it's a popular standby for builders because it's bullet-proof, and can be made to be pretty sporty.

The pics of the dash look promising! Your parts hunting skills/connections are impressive. If you come across a good replacement for my BC Sport Coupe's dash, let me know! I'm looking forward to seeing what will power your car, and to seeing it's body being restored. Keep it up, and involve your son as much as you can! Thanks for the info. I am also wanting to run triple webber carbs. funny you should say that about the ford 9" if you look at the side view of the Ghia it has Mercury capri wheels on the rear. there is a ford rear end under the car now. the 2nd and 3rd owners (both are friends)tried to install a capri V-6 drive train. but never finished. and I have been toying with the idea leaving it. I think you may have talked me into it.

my bigger issues will be finding the small odd rare parts like linkages, and there are trans parts missing and unknown parts missing. I am planning it to take about another 3 years. the rest of this year to collect parts. and dry fit most everything. looks like at least a year for body and paint. during which time I will be working on motor and trans than the last bit of time putting it all back together and testing everything

To find parts it takes TIME TIME TIME i spend about 4 hours a day searching the web making phone calls and sending emails and letters. been doing it since I bought the car about a year ago. I also check craiglist and ebay weekly. and one of the biggest issue I have with craiglist is I have to search city by city and I cant do a world search for car parts. and I have a great friend in Sweden who has been helping a lot keeping a eye out for parts. he found the grill and tail lights.

This is just one of the many pieces of software that allow multiple city and country searches at one time. I have an Ipad and one of the apps lets me save searches so I just have to hit 1 button to check everywhere. See if the link helps you any.

I might vote double, but the whale tail over the grille seems a little funny. If the stripes were straight all the way down, that would be really nice.
