Hello from Eugene Oregon, (soon to be North Dakota)!

Post by garhett »

Hey guys!

Well like many others I didn't know anything about these cars or cars in general that much before I purchased it.
But with that said I don't have one ounce of regret! Every time I just sit in it I get a grin, and just about everyone else who I give a ride can't wipe it off their face either. Don't know how many times I've gotten the "I feel so classy" comment. haha

Now I don't know if this is weird, but I call (him) Tony. I just have a lot of respect for him and try to treat him like a good old friend. Kinda like that boy and his dog thing, and of course Tony because of the "fix it again Tony" joke. This car has taught me a lot about taking your time and to make sure a job is done right the first time.

He's a 77 124 spider. Seems to be in pretty good shape, no real rust that I can find and engine runs pretty strong.

So with all that said, it looks like in the next week here we'll be goin for a major road trip home. I know that a lot of people do use these as daily drivers, but a road trip is usually only attempted by the most daring of men/women.
I actually have a fantastic mechanic, that's just been great to me when I bring it to him. He actually has an 850 as his daily driver and I believe an Abarth that he races ( yes I stare at it every time I go in there).

Anyways, He'll be looking at it this weekend and helping me do a bit of a tune up, but I was still curious of others opinion on the trip. Am I crazy? Any tips? Story's?

Thanks guys, Much love!

Sounds like you bought a good one. BTW if you want to call her Toni, it's ok by me. Love to see those pics.

rims and tires

then i drove it back to wi 1800 miles
the starter backed of"wrong bolts"in wy and so i had to push start it
after fueling up for the rest of the trip
34 hours and i was home with it

Funny you say that, I was actually gonna change the engine and tranny oil today. Turns out I don't have the right size allen wrench for it. Went to O'Reilly's and harbor freight and neither of them had it :| . Looks like 12mm or 13mm??? Anyways After buying a siphon for the tranny, a wrench for the oil filter and a pan for the fluid (first car I've done an oil change on and I'm 22  , haha) the total came to about $20 and that's without the allen wrench which I'm hoping is the same for both the engine and the tranny :| ?

So even tho I was all excited to revel in the glory of my first oil change, now I just kinda feel like takin it to a shop and paying them the same price as what I would have for the tools.

What I'd really like to know is when and how Eugene Oregon is going to become North Dakota. Do the North Dakotans know about this??
