Hello all, I'm looking for some info on this great car. I hope to be purchasing one in the near future. I live in ga and they seem a little rare around here. I've restored 2 cars in the past but this will be my first fiat. I'm currently working on a ford but I'm keeping my eyes open for a spider.

Hi there. Yes this is a great place for everything Fiat. If you are looking for a spider.. kinda two schools of thought... if really handy with mechanicals and bodywork a cheaper car with issues can be had real cheap or spend $4000.00 or so and have a great place to start and perhaps drive while restoring. There are actually a ton of Fiats on the east coast. There is the Fiat convention of sorts in Charlottesvile VA in the beginning of Aug I thought. Check IAP classifieds as well as here for cars for sale. Think a couple of good ones are for sale now.
Good luck with your quest, the cars are easy to work on and numerous mods can be done to satisfy one desires.

What are some of the rust prone areas on these cars? I figure the fender wells, floor and trunk pans, under the spare tire. Anywhere else i need to look at carefully?

Without a doubt, the most important place to look for rust is the front shock towers. Be very afraid of a car that has rust there.

Ok thanks. I know a 30 or 40 year old car will have some rust. But i will be looking at the shock towers.

if it has two carbs take it
if it has air con and power windows TAKE IT

look up from under, the rear of the drivers seat for rust
shock towers as mentioned fot rust

fuel injection is good
72 and early is good
79 had restrictions
85.5 is the deluxe

all and all if its a good body its worth it

Well it's a 76 with no ac, one carb and roll up windows. The body seems to be in good condition. Top looks good. With what looks to be a broke ring in the motor. It runs but smokes. I haven't checked compression but I'll do that when I get a day off. Are there any issues with the manual trans on these cars?

if you jab it in gear yes, missing 2nd and grinding will wear it out

Ok. Thanks for the info on what to be looking for. Are there any parts on these cars that are really hard to find? So when looking for a car to be sure not to be missing those parts?

There a few parts that aren't readily available. There is very good vendor support for parts.
