Another Hello from AZ

Post by bvanroekel »

I purchased a 1976 Fiat Spider last summer with about 49,000 miles and am just getting around to getting an introduction posted. I have spent a bunch of hours reading through posts and getting to know this car.

I purchased it from an uncle who parked it 15 years ago and never drove the car again (the tires amazingly still hold air and still have the little nobbies on them as he put brand new tires on right before he parked it). It was covered for the beginning years but then sat exposed to the Arizona sun for many more. The car only had a couple previous owners, so it does not have all the "tinkering" issues that many talk about with such areas as the electrical. I also have all the repair records for the life of the car, which is quite an interesting read. The sun pretty much baked the paint and interior to oblivion, but the car has no rust.

I began stripping the car down last fall and work on it as I have time. While I tinkered with cars when I was young, this is definitely a much larger project than I have ever done before. I am having a great time working on it so far and the amount of knowledge on this board has already been a big help in making me comfortable with this restoration project. If I do this right, here are a couple shots of what I started with.

Welcome to the board. There is a wealth of information here as well as other forums on the net.
Spiders seem to be popping up all over AZ. Must be that lack of rust benefit we have here.

And those tires may look new, but I'd bet they look more like your top on the inside. I'd be a little reluctant to push
them through many twisties being that old and baking in the sun for 15 years.

What part of the state are you in? There is a local chapter of FLU in Phx.

Those tires will not see any more action than the rolling around of the car while I work at getting it back on the road.

I am in southeast Phoenix in the Queen Creek area.

Hi and welcome to the group. I have my 78 Spyder in New River AZ.
Is there a group in the Phoenix area?
