I've been trying to figure this out... Maybe someone else has already done it, and could help me out.
I have a pressure gauge off a '75, with the red electrical connector block. I put a pressure sending unit on the engine and connected the existing wire that used to be connected to the pressure light sender.
I removed the gray wire that used to go to the pressure light in the Tach. Has anyone got an easy solution for me?
This gauge will make a nice replacement for my cloudy clock.

Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
Well, I don't think it'll just plug in anywhere, will it? If not, I need to know how to wire it up. The terminals on the back of the gauge are marked, but obscurely. I see a +12V and I know the gray/black wire goes to the sending unit... There's an indicator light that hooks up to a grey wire.. A white wire that goes to illuminate the gauge... Yellow/black wire(s) that appear to be grounds, and black/white wire that I'm not sure of.
Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
As you know, '79's (at least mine) have
no oil pressure gauge, just an idiot light on the tachometer.

Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
I think I have it figured out, thanks to Brad Artigue's site. Here's my crude rendering-
Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
Hmmm.. Everything connected right, the gauge seems to work when I turn on the key. The needle travels to the first line- Even when the car is started... And that's all.
Could it be a bad sending unit? The one I am using is untested off a donor car.

Thanks for the diagram, I too will be doing exactly this soon.

Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
I can read what you have there & I have the Brads electrical diagrams too.
Once you get it all figured out for sure, yes make a nice diagram & post it!
I think the grey wire on the gauge may be for the low pressure indicator light (my gauge has one like the one in the tach) & if you put both the pressure sender & the idiot light sender on the engine & add a wire for one of them you can hook it up too (jumper'd to the one in the tach so they both light).
When my gauge gets here I will verify that, mine may be different than yours I think it came from an '83 (do you know Jaime?)

I hope this isn't too little too late, I've been trying to remember/find this link all day:AZ79 wrote:I've been trying to figure this out... Maybe someone else has already done it, and could help me out.

Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
Wonderful directions!
Thanks Opus, I had read that a long time ago, that's how I knew you could do both but had No idea where.
Hopefully my 83? gauge has the same wires & will work with the older style sending unit I have, I noticed they show a different one for the 83-85's in the parts catalogs.
Anyone know if they are interchangeable???

Re: Oil gauge on a '79?
Essentially what I did, except I didn't hook up a new light switch and just used the existing light switch wire as the wire for my gauge sender, then connected the other end under the dash to my new gauge.opus10583 wrote:
