Toasted my magnetic pickup wire :(
Toasted my magnetic pickup wire :(
So after doing some work on my spider today, I warmed her in the garage. I shut her off to check to see if my coolant leak was fixed. Didn't see any leaks but then saw the white pickup wire resting on the exhaust manifold. About 3" of wire insulation got toasted black but didn't expose any wire. Do you think it would be ok to still use, its only about 2 years old or should I replace it soon?

If you see no exposed wire conductors and the car runs ok I would keep it. You might consider purchasing a spare just in case you have a problem in the future

I'd be a little worried about the integrity of the insulation. If the car is running OK and you don't want to change it then you can:
> (more attractive solution) put some heat shrink over it
> (less attractive solution) wrap it in electrical tape

For now I just black taped it up, was gonna heat shrink it but the connectors are too big. Will order a spare just in case.
