Engine to body ground
I was fooled by what looked like a decent ground wire from the engine to the drivers floor. I was replacing the starter because it sometimes would not engage and sometimes could not turn the engine over. I had looked at the ground wire previously and thought it looked good. I decided to move the ground from the bell housing to directly to the lower starter bolt. when I bent the cable it snapped. The conductors were crystallized and brittle beyond belief. So I made a new ground lead and connected it to the forward steering box bolt. This car is a barn find that was stored for 15 years in a garage and has only 71,000 miles on it. New starter works just fine. Can't say enough about inspecting the original ground wire for broken strands

Also check your battery ground wire. A few strands were broken on mine were it attaches to the chassis.
