Buon Giorno, Come Va,

New to the forum.

Retired Naval Officer, College professor, resident of Chesapeake, VA since 79.

Looking at a 75 124 spider.

This will be my fifth Fiat.

First was a 72 124 Sport Coupe which I bought new, one of the finest cars I ever owned. Then a 124 Spider which I only owned for a short time. I was on temporary assignment to Italy two times and bought a Fiat each time. The first time I bought an 850 Coupe and the second was a 128 two door Coupe.

I have only seen photos of this Spider but by the description and the photos it seems at least in fair condition. The owner wants 1500.00 but will take "any offer"

I know that it needs a top and the interior is rough. Reverse lights do not work and there is minor body damage on the left side. He has replaced the fuel lines, and most of the cooling system components. He says that the transmission is in good shape and specifically said that the synchronizers are fine. Shifts nice and quiet.

If I buy this car I will be back to the forum about a million times for advice.

Welcome, I used to live in Norfolk then Va. Beach. The car you describe sounds like a $1000 car or less to me. It depends on how rare they are in the Tidewater area. I know they are fairly uncommon in the mid-west.

Thanks 2ndWind,

I went to visit the car last night and by the time I left the seller was willing to let it go for $500.00.

I still don't want it as the car has very few redeaming qualities. It runs and the transmission is indeed quiet as he originally told me.

But it needs cam bearings and is a good way from being inspectable.

I am going to spend more money and get one which is in better condition. Got my eye n an 81 Pininfarina in Brown.

Where did you live in Norfolk and what took you away?

Tnx,
