Just bought a '74 Spider. This is my first Fiat (I've always owned VWs). Located in Middle Georgia!

You are correct about WR and the AF! Been in the area for 2 years now. Originally from the San Francisco area.

I'll get some pics up soon. The car is real rough and not running at the time. I've definitely got my work cut out for me!

Well, good news is the engine is freed up, all of the mechanical parts are there, minimal rust on the body and rocker panels, and the front seats are completely usable.

The bad news: bad starter, bad ignition switch, rusted out floor panels, trashed windshield, might need new wheels, definitely need new tires.

I'm starting to wonder if this project is worth it considering my minimal automotive background...

Hey there.

I just bought an 81 last week. I used to own a 74 in the early 80's. It was a nice car.

My 81 is rust free with a great interior, but needs some mechanical attention, so I don't know exactly what I'm in for. PO said is was all running well before he took it off the road in '07. We'll see.

Good luck

Sounds like a full project. If your floor pannels are the only thing that is rusted out, they can be fixed. But you said minimal experience so if you can solder then you might be able to tackle it. If not, it might get costly fast if you have to pay a shop.

All mechanical stuff can be fixed. The big problem is always rust.

Take inventory of what needs to be done and make an honest judgement if you can handle it. It may be better to part the car and look for a better condition one that fits your abilities. It may be a cheaper option.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I've decided to go through with a full restoration. I'm going in this weekend to work out all the mechanical issues and clean/restore the gas tank. I'll take photos throughout the process and post them up here and on my website (also a work in progress).

I look forward to meeting some of you around GA soon. I've been in WR for 2 years now and I still haven't really been in ATL. I was up in the Cleveland/Helen area a few months back. Made it out to Dahlonega on that same trip. LOVED the area!
