is there a faq somewhere indicating where all (pictures would be cool) the stock ground points are?
I'd like to go through and redo or repair them but I don't really want to spend a whole weekend finding them if someone has already put together a nice DIY.

I'm interested too. I've cleaned a couple of them up, because I saw them and thought to. I've not gone out to hunt them all down and clean them good. I've cleaned maybe 3 or so, but from this post on Mira back in 1999, I think I must be missing a handful.

identified. There aren't that many of them though. The most
imortant being the one from the body shell to the bellhousing,
there 's only three or four in the engine bay, two or three
under the dash and a couple in the trunk.

if this connection fails, most Spiders will seek another grounding source to do such tasks as start the engine and charge the battery (read...high use tasks).Danno wrote:The most

when this connection fails, commonly the Spider will use the clutch cable to perform the necessary electron transfer routine. eventually the clutch cable will fail because of all the arcing inside the clutch cable sheathing.
to prevent this, many of us will add a ground wire between the engine block and the inner fender. I used a 16" black battery cable bought at AutoZone and the stud that originally held the air pump on the engine block. the other end was secured to the inner fender.
for under $10 my clutch cable has been insured against becoming the sacrificial lamb for the electrical system.

You can download the wiring diagrams (for some model years) from my website (http://www.artigue.com/fiat) and the grounding "stars" are pictured. They are more prevalent on the later cars.
The ground that gets overlooked on a lot of cars runs from the back of the exhaust camshaft house to the body. It is connected to any of the 3 camshaft rear cover studs and runs to the firewall. It is on the wiring diagrams but I usually don't see it except on the FI cars.
Get your grounds clean and installed right and you'll have nice bright lights and quick starts. It is amazing how much simply replacing these things makes a difference.
