Hello from South Shore Boston

Post by KWBsung »

Great to be a new member...I just purchased a 1978 Spider that had not been driven in 12 years. It has only 64k miles and appears to be mostly original. However due to setting so long there were issues with fuel, ignition and cooling. The fuel tank was drained and flushed, new spark plug wires, points, condensor, (by the previous owner). The car was running when I bought it and in fact I put in a new radiator and thermostat (the old one was leaking and the car was over heating). After installing the new radiator and thermostat and filling with coolant per the directions, the car started up and ran cool. However, it idled very fast and I could not get it to adjust down by adjusting the throttle adjusting screw on the carb. At one point the car died while I was messing with the idle adustment and then would not restart. Since then I took the idle cut of selenoid off the carb to measure the thread size (8mm) and have ordered a new one. Today I put the old selenoid back on the carb and tried to start several time with no success. Does anyone have any ideas? The new selenoid should be in Weds or Thurs but I do not understand why it died on me to begin with and why it will not start now...Help! Thanks and I look forward to being a contibuter to the forum and will post some pics when I get her running. Keith

Welcome, Keith! You may have better luck asking your technical questions in the appropriate section of the forum. Some people may not read all the introductions, and it may be the person with your answer. We'd love to see pics of your new ride when you have a chance.

Geez, isn't anyone ever from North Shore Boston? Anyway, glad to hear about another spider nearby, sort of.
